Empowering Birth Choices~ Educating Birth Professionals
Monika Rosicka, LM, CPM, PS is a Homebirth Midwife, Placenta Specialist, Yoga Instructor, and Midwifery Teacher and Preceptor. She is based out of beautiful rural Northern California. She has over 15 years clinical experience providing holistic health services to families, specializing in home and out of hospital births and offering water births.
Monika also provides Well Woman Care, including family planning, Pap Smears, Clinical Breast Exams, and Physicals. You can have your blood work done or be referred out to a local lab for any tests you might need. She is well versed in current birth control methods available to help serve your reproductive health needs and teaches Fertility Awareness Method (FAM) and Lactation Amenorrhea Method (LAM) privately and in groups.
Monika has countless trainings in the fields of midwifery, women's health, lactation, maternal and child health, parent-child bonding, perinatal psychology, placenta arts and science, and pre/postnatal yoga. She also earned her Bachelor's of Arts in Women's Studies and Psychology from University of CA at Santa Cruz in 2000.
Graduate of Maternidad La Luz/The Birth Place in 2006, Monika sat for the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM) exam in 2007, becoming a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM). She became a Licensed Midwife with the Medical Board of CA via the CA Challenge Process in 2008.
Monika started her solo homebirth practice Tree Of Life Midwifery Services that same year (2008) in Humboldt County and moved to Mendocino County in 2011 when she was pregnant with her first child, Shri.
Attending her first birth in 2002 as a Case Manager with Teen Moms in the Bay Area, Monika found her calling and immediately pursued midwifery. As of October 2015, she has helped over 1,000 families in various capacities and settings, from preconception to pregnancy and birth, to postpartum, and in between births.
She has worked in community health centers, many different homes (from super rural to modern city and suburb ones), in several birth centers, and over a dozen hospitals throughout CA. Her youngest client was only 14 years old and her oldest client 46, with many in between this age span. She has never missed a birth. She has been primary midwife at over 250 births.
Monika has extensive background in the variations of normal births, works well with clinic and hospital based providers and has several other Licensed Midwives she regularly attends birth with rurally.
Monika has trained several students, and some are now Licensed Midwives while others decided to pursue nursing school and lactation consulting as career choices. She has also trained Placenta Specialists and really enjoys the apprenticeship and mentorship models for training the next generation of midwives and birth professionals.
Monika was born in Warsaw, Poland in 1978 and immigrated to California in 1987 with her family to pursue better opportunities. Monika began her journey into women's health as a teenager growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area, where she learned about natural fertility from her mother Jolanta Rosicka, who is also a Reiki Master with many gifts in the healing arts.
Shri was born via cesarean birth after a home birth transfer which propelled Monika to probe deeper into many healing modalities to integrate her experience and be of even better service to the families who come into her care.
Monika has practiced hatha yoga since she was 17 years old and first began teaching in 2001. Pre/postnatal yoga as well as yoga for women's health and vitality are her specialities. She holds many trainings in yoga, including several immersions and 100 and 200-hour teacher trainings with renowned teachers.
Serving 6 years on the Board of Directors for the CA Association of Midwives (CAM), Monika was one of the supporting players that helped remove Physician Supervision of LM Practice Regulations, paving the way for LMs to become Medi-Cal and CPSP (Comprehensive Perinatal Services Program) as of January 2016.
Monika feels it is her duty to share her knowledge with more women. She has been educating midwives since she was a student midwife herself and was often told her teaching style is clear and welcoming. As a lifelong learner and someone able to master several modalities, Monika started her online School Women's Wisdom in 2015 and is now offering a Placenta Specialist Certification Training and will soon be offering Midwifery Assistant Course, a legal career choice in CA as of Jan 1, 2016.
